Colours of Time is the new film from acclaimed Director Cédric Klapisch… whose previous films “Rise” & “Back to Burgundy” were audience favourites at previous Yamba Cinema Film Festivals.
Brought together by the unexpected inheritance of an abandoned house in rural Normandy, four cousins discover they share a mysterious family history…. unexpectedly that they are linked by one shared ancestor, Adèle Meunier….. As they uncover traces of Adèle’s life, the story opens onto another era… In 1895, Adèle, then aged 21, leaves Normandy to search for her mother in Paris. at twenty and reappears in Paris, a city alive with invention, early photography and the rise of Impressionism.
The film moves between 2024 and 1895, letting the past mirror the present.
The two timelines of 1895 and 2024 intertwine and collide, confronting the cousin’s contemporary attitudes with life in the late 19th century Paris, leaving everyone’s future forever changed. What emerges is a thoughtful comic meditation on changing social mores over approximately 125 years as Klapisch re-examines some much-loved myths and images of French history – particularly from the heyday of Impressionism.
A crowd pleasing comedy of France past and present.
